Hello everyone!
Today on my blog I wanted to talk about some movies that everyone knows (or should know) about, and how they are based off of books.
Typically, if a movie is based off of a book it’s something that is widely known and displayed on a lot of platforms.
You don’t usually see movies not mention their affiliation to a novel.
I hope you enjoy this blog post and learn about some very odd book to movie adaptations that are not known by a large part of the public.
Freaky Friday
Freaky Friday is a movie that I loved when I was younger. I thought it was hilarious and such a cool concept. Little did I know that this movie was based off a novel called Freaky Friday by Mary Rodgers. This book was published in 1972 and was originally a children’s book!
Jaws
Jaws is a movie that I have not seen yet but I have definitely heard of all the hype surrounding this novel. Seeing that this movie was based off a book was kind of odd to hear because it is a movie that does seem to rely a lot on jump scares (I’m guessing, I haven’t seen it). This book was written by Peter Benchley and called Jaws as well.
Fun fact: The film rights for Jaws was sold before the book was even published! The hype made the book a best seller! Additionally, the author, Peter Benchley, was very guilty for giving sharks a bad name so he decided to become an ocean conservationist.
The Exorcist
The Exorcist is one movie that I am a pretty big fan of. It’s spooky and old and really fun to watch when the year is nearing Halloween (aka now). Finding out that this movie was a novel is very interesting to me. This novel sounds like it could be a hit or a miss.
One of the greatest things about The Exorcist is the funny visuals and spooky sounds that you hear in the movie. Therefore, I’m interested to see how the novel does in bringing in those aspects.
Fun Fact: There is now a Exorcist television show, I tried to watch the first episode of it and was not a fan… anyone else enjoy it?
Mean Girls
Mean Girls is a classic to some, so it would be a surprise for many to learn that it was in fact made after the book Queen Bees Wannabes by Rosalind Wiseman. Tina Fey read this book (which is a self help book for parents of kids in high school) and thought it would be a great concept for a movie.
Shrek
This movie is something that I still find absurd and question how it got popular. Nonetheless, this movie was adapted from a book by author William Steig called Shrek.
That concludes my post about odd movies that were adapted from books. I hope you enjoyed and learned something new about one of your favourite flicks!
Thank you so much for reading and don’t forget to follow my blog as well as my other social media sites linked in the side bar below.
Until next time,

The Exorcist TV show is the greatest thing ever! I’d say give it another chance. The first couple episodes are a bit slow but it reminds me of those old 80’s horror movies where they build up this huge story. That’s what it’s doing with the show. I’m currently on the second season and it’s just so great! I have the book but haven’t read it yet. The bf had me watch the original movie in preparation for the show and I thought it was really good!
I didn’t know Freaky Friday was a book though. I’ll have to check it out. I also think I have Jaws around my home somewhere but I’ve never seen the movie. lol.
Good post thought! I really liked this!

I always thought Mean Girls was Inspired by Heathers (the 80s cult classic with Winnona Rider)?
