Alright let’s just jump into the review!
Release Date: April 3rd, 2018
Publisher: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers
Genre: Science Fiction and YA
Plot: (Do not read if you haven’t read Book #1: Defy the Stars)
An outcast from her home — Shunned after a trip through the galaxy with Abel, the most advanced cybernetic man ever created, Noemi Vidal dreams of traveling through the stars one more time. And when a deadly plague arrives on Genesis, Noemi gets her chance. As the only soldier to have ever left the planet, it will be up to her to save its people…if only she wasn’t flying straight into a trap.
A fugitive from his fate — On the run to avoid his depraved creator’s clutches, Abel believes he’s said good-bye to Noemi for the last time. After all, the entire universe stands between them…or so he thinks. When word reaches him of Noemi’s capture by the very person he’s trying to escape, Abel knows he must go to her, no matter the cost.
But capturing Noemi was only part of Burton Mansfield’s master plan. In a race against time, Abel and Noemi will come together once more to discover a secret that could save the known worlds, or destroy them all.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
This novel was one that I didn’t know whether I’d actually love or not. The first novel in this series was just ok and I was afraid that this novel would feel the same for me.
This novel DID NOT feel the same for me as the first.
I enjoyed this novel so very much, and let me tell you why.
The characters in this sequel grew so very much, and I loved every moment of it. I felt like in the first novel I didn’t get to see as much of either of the main characters as much as I wanted to.
I didn’t feel like their personalities were able to shine through much, and that was the reason for a lot of my dislike for the first novel. Not saying I hated the first novel, I just didn’t love it as much as I wished I did.
In this novel, I fell more and more in love with Abel. It was very hard for me to find anything about him that I didn’t like, and that’s saying a lot.
As for Noemi, she was so strong in this novel. Her character felt like she had an amazing upgrade, and I was loving every second of it.
The writing in this novel was okay. I enjoyed it and I found it to be entertaining, but it wasn’t anything extraordinary.
I was very in the middle when it came to the writing in this novel. I didn’t find much prose that I fell in love with, and there weren’t endless quotes that I found spoke to me on a deep level, but I also didn’t hate the writing.
It was ok.
I really thought the plot of this novel improved a whole lot from the first novel.
I was intrigued the entire time and found that I couldn’t stop reading this novel. From the start it was go, go, go.
In this novel there were alternating chapters for Abel and Noemi, and I felt like that also really sped up my reading process as well as increased my enjoyment of this novel.
The flow of this novel was so amazing that it made it a book in which you couldn’t really find yourself wanting to put it down, and that’s the best kind of novel.
All in all, this novel was a sequel that I was so happy to read. It definitely redeemed this series for me and I’m so glad for that. I really recommend you guys pick this novel up in April when it comes out, especially if you were uncertain about continuing this series.
Trust me, it gets better.
