Stay Sweet by Siobhan Vivian

Hello everyone!

Todays read was a super fun summer read. Recently I’ve been reading a lot of fantasy novels and novels with huge plot lines. I figured it’s time for me to pick up something that’s a bit easier and something that is just a fun read.

This novel was exactly what I was looking for. I had so much fun reading this novel and all it makes me want is more fun summer contemporary!

Goodreads Rating: 3.89/5
Pages: 368 Pages
Publisher: Simon Schuster Books for Young Readers
Published: April 24th, 2018
Genre: Contemporary, YA, and Romance

Plot:
Summer in Sand Lake isn’t complete without a trip to Meade Creamery—the local ice cream stand founded in 1944 by Molly Meade who started making ice cream to cheer up her lovesick girlfriends while all the boys were away at war. Since then, the stand has been owned and managed exclusively by local girls, who inevitably become the best of friends. Seventeen-year-old Amelia and her best friend Cate have worked at the stand every summer for the past three years, and Amelia is “Head Girl” at the stand this summer. When Molly passes away before Amelia even has her first day in charge, Amelia isn’t sure that the stand can go on. That is, until Molly’s grandnephew Grady arrives and asks Amelia to stay on to help continue the business…but Grady’s got some changes in mind…

This novel is exactly what you expect it to be when you read the synopsis. It was a fun summer read and something that I thoroughly enjoyed!

Characters

The characters in this novel were probably the only reason I didn’t give this novel a 5/5. They were all a bit unlikeable and annoying and it was very hard for me to root for them to succeed. I did enjoy the main character Amelia at times, and I enjoyed the romance that occurred between two of the characters.

Amelia was a very real character. I definitely see myself in her, in the way she fears bossing someone around and taking charge. I still struggle with doing that myself, so I can’t fault her too much for doing the same.

Writing

The writing of this novel was easy to read and very smooth. I thoroughly enjoyed how quickly I was able to get through this novel and it definitely gave me the fun summer feeling I was looking for.

Additionally, I thought that the writing really allowed for us to focus on the plot more than smaller inconsequential things, which also added to the speed you can finish the novel.

Plot

The plot of this novel was one the main reasons I loved it. I love the idea of working in a small ice cream shop and how worry free these girls can be at their work. It’s such a fun idea and it definitely made the novel feel very reminiscent of those summer days where all you want to do is eat ice cream and lay in the sun.

I was also loving the whole making ice cream aspect of this novel. I personally love things like that and it was so fun for me to read.

Now I have the strongest urge to buy an ice cream maker and experiment with different flavours!

I’m glad you liked it!

Yes I agree with you’re review. I rated it 5 stars because I too connected with Amelia. Molly’s letters was my favorite part! I’m glad Amelia was able to connect with her and grow through those letters.

Great review ☺️
